About the client

RSF Tennis Club is based in Risley (Near Reading). They wanted me to update and redesign their website to a content management system so they can update it themselves. They wanted a web design that would be more appealing to a younger audience, but still accommodated to the needs of all their members.

Job Description

They needed a 15 – 20 page website that could be updated by members of the committee. I decided that the best approach was to create a bespoke content management system, that was simple to use. The project involved several meetings with the chairperson for the club, and occasional meetings with the committee to discuss the design and to refine their requirements.

The meetings took place over several months because the committee were only able to meet once a month. The project was finished in July 2010 and members of the committee started updating the website with new content.

Content Management System

The website content management system allows the committee to:

  • Edit, delete and disable pages on the website
  • Add, edit, delete and disable news and event items
  • Attach files to a news or event page
  • Upload, edit and delete images in a Gallery
  • Upload match results onto the matches page
  • Add, Edit and delete matches throughout the year

Gallery Management

The gallery management system allows the committee to show, hide, add, edit and delete images using an intuitive interface. When an image is added, a small thumbnail is automatically created, and this is what is shown when a user views the gallery page on the site. It means that they can upload high quality images, without it impacting on page loading speeds for the visitor.
